ST JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCH, WASPERTON
A SANCTUARY FOR WILDLIFE

Updated January 2022

Jack Frost in Janiveer,
Nips the nose of the nascent year.

This rhyme refers to cold January continuing into a cold February or "nascent" (beginning or young) part of the year. The persistence of similar monthly temperatures is one of the few striking features to emerge from records. There is only an evens chance though, that a cold January passes into February. We will see...

January is the worst month for cold stormy weather as we know - from the 5th until around the 18th. Then we may have a frosty time until the last week before more storms to end of the month.

Here in the Churchyard, all is quiet at the moment but there are little signs to see. The snowdrops are just peeping and hopefully will do as well as last year.
