ST JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCH, WASPERTON Updated May 2023 St Dunstan was a brewer and St Dunstan's Day (19th May) showed the highest total of cold days in the three-day period. The test gave a 31% chance of being correct. Now I don't know why St Dunstan got involved with the Devil. I can only think that he was a brewer of cider, hence the apple tree problem. Who knows? How ever best to keep your woolies handy for the 19th May. Weather wise overall often a good month, usually the period 29th April to the 16th May gives us a northerly airstream with some anti-cyclones now and then. Not many westerlies then, the last 10 days of May giving us warm air and southerlies. The "Merrie Month of May" But this is to do with May Poles and we won't go into that, the children may be listening. Crumbs what a super spring so far, the bulbs and early flowers have been magnificent. I don't think I have seen a year with everything doing so well in the Churchyard as this. My disappointment continues in that we have not seen hedgehogs in their box and no owls in theirs either. Blue tits are nesting in one of the bird boxes so we do have some activity. Moles and grey squirrels are making their presence felt of course, I know it is a wild life Churchyard so stop moaning. The grass is shooting up to keep our team busy and the mowers have been to the mower man so they are ready too. All set for an active summer, do drop by if you are in the area and have a wander through the Churchyard you are more than welcome. Thanks for your support. Mike Porter
